Synopsis

Geum Jan Di is from a poor family and is admitted to the prestigious Shinhwa High School after stopping a student who was being bullied from committing suicide. Shinhwa High was established by Shinhwa Group, the biggest conglomerate in Korea, and is attended by the scions of the wealthiest families. At Shinhwa, she finds that a group of rich and good-looking boys called “F4″ (“Flower 4″ or “Flamboyant 4″) who enjoys tremendous popularity. The F4, however, thinks nothing of humiliating others, and often issues a “red card”. Whoever finds the dreaded red card in his or her locker subsequently becomes the target of bullying by the entire student body. Jan Di detests all this circus, but receives a red card herself and is bullied, after she stands up for one of her fellow classmates. Eventually, she begins to have feelings for one of the F4, Ji-hoo, but also discovers that the leader of the group, Jun Pyo, is falling for her, too. A love triangle thus develops among Jun Pyo, Jan Di and Ji Hoo.

[edit] Relationships

[edit] JunPyo and JanDi

Jan Di initially hates him and his two friends, Yi Jung and Woo Bin, and stands up against him after Jun Pyo tries to humiliate Min Ji, Jan Di’s only friend at the school. Jun Pyo then puts a red card in Jan Di’s locker. After continuous bullying, an incident in which Jan Di kicks Jun Pyo in the face, causes Jun Pyo to see an aspect of his older sister who disciplined him when he was little. His feelings for Jan Di begin to develop after that point.

However, Jan Di dislikes him for what he has done to her and she is already in love with Ji Hoo. Jun Pyo persists in making Jan Di fall for him and succeeds. As their relationship becomes official, Jun Pyo’s mother becomes an obstacle. She does everything possible to prevent Jun Pyo from being with Jan Di.

JunPyo realizes his inner blackness in episode 5 and thinks JanDi, which translates to “Grass” in English, really represents his true love. The TV audience will find out what his resolve will be in episode 19.

[edit] JunPyo and JaeKyeong

Ha Jae Kyeong is the daughter of the owner of the very large JK Company. According to Jun Pyo’s sister, his mother is “selling him off” [in the form of an arranged marriage with Jae Kyeong] because she needs Shinhwa to form alliances with JK. Jae Kyeong also happens to be a person that JanDi “idolizes” because Jae Kyeong saved her from being robbed when she was in Macau. Jae Kyeong begins to really like JanDi because JanDi is her only friend and being to have true feelings for Jun Pyo.

Jun Pyo’s mom convinces Jun Pyo that this marriage is really important and that he should start being nicer to Jae Kyeong. So they start officially dating but everything that they do ends up with Jun Pyo remembering JanDi. Jae Kyeong feels that Jun Pyo always has someone else on his mind and asks him to kiss her in proof that he really does like her. So they kiss, but who else is watching but JanDi herself?! But later on it is very obvious that Jun Pyo still likes JanDi and Jae Kyeong learns that Jun Pyo will never love her and will only love JanDi. So she leaves the two of them.

[edit] JiHoo and JanDi

When Jan Di was being bullied after receiving the red card, Ji Hoo was the only one who offered her consolation. Such generosity made Jan Di develop feelings for the soft-spoken Ji Hoo. However, his first love was Seo Hyeon, a lawyer and a model. He even followed her to Paris, as So Hyeon went back to Paris. While he was gone, Jun Pyo took action on Jan Di and she ended up liking him too. But when Ji Hoo came back, he realized that Jan Di is his true love.

For his friendship with Jun Pyo and wanting Jan Di to be happier, he leaves Jan Di. We can see that whenever Jan Di is going through hard times, struggling or is depressed, Ji Hoo is always there for her, not wanting her in grief. In addition, he gives lots of advice when she has problems with Jun Pyo and encourages their love, as his definition for love, is making that person happy.

[edit] JiHoo and SeoHyeon

Seo Hyeon is a model, as well as a lawyer who helped Ji Hoo when he was a child to overcome trauma from the tragic death of his parents. Seo Hyeon becomes Ji Hoo’s first love. She announces that she will go to Paris to become a model instead of inheriting her family’s business and becoming a lawyer. Ji Hoo tries to fight for their love and follows her to Paris. However, their relationship fails and he returns to Korea.

[edit] YiJeong and GaEul

Yi Jeong is a player, but after he helps Ga Eul get her revenge against a man who dumped her, Ga-Eul begins to like him. Yi Jeong only treats her as Jan Di’s friend. However, as the story develops, YiJeong seems to be developing feelings for GaEul.

There are many differences in Yi Jeong and GaEul’s relationship in all three televised versions and the manga, but in all 3 their relationship is less emphasized after YiJeong’s first love, EunJae, comes back and GaEul develops strong feelings for Yi Jeong. However, there is still the possibility that they may end up together since the makers of the Korean series want to make the story different to the manga.

[edit] YiJeong and EunJae

EunJae is YiJeong’s first love. YiJeong had a crush on her but backed off, believing that she was in love with his brother. He finds out later that she indeed have feelings for him, but began dating his brother, thinking that it was him who did not have any feelings for her.

One thing that I like most of the Korean version of Boys over Flower is the So-eul couple moments. It make me crave for more…It even overpower the main cast as the soeulmates couple are overflowing with this great chemistry…I just simply like BOF because of them…
